When I decided to change career and move to a different country, the one option I thought was going to be easier and faster to generate income, was to open a business. Oh boy, how wrong I was!
Once I started operations with my business, I discovered the word “entrepreneur”. I must confess that I was not familiar with its definition or what it implies or stands for. Nevertheless, people I was meeting daily was calling me an entrepreneur.
The actual definition of an entrepreneur I found in Google.com is “a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so”. I would add to it that we take many more risks you can’t think of, not just financial, it goes beyond that.
I realized that being an entrepreneur is like running a marathon, with no finish line though. It is a very stressful but fulfilling way of life, ironic isn’t it? There will be times of joy, but also times when you will feel exhausted and you just want to throw the towel, but you keep going. We just need to learn how to rest, to quit is not an option, and not because you can’t, is because you don’t want to!
The journey of entrepreneurship is a rocky road. I won’t lie to you it is not easy, but if you really want to take it, you’ll make it work. There will be a lot of obstacles to overcome, believe me when I tell you, that from those obstacles you will learn, you will grow, and you’ll end up being stronger.
One thing I have found that is important is to have a support system. This starts with your family, your friends and your team in your business. They will support you, keep you motivated, and they will be there for better and for worse. Surround yourself with people that will lift you up and avoid toxic people and negativity, you don’t need that.
Please, recognize when to ask for help, we all need it at some point. You won't be losing anything; you might end up winning a lot. We can learn from others’ experience, someone has been in your situation before, and might have made mistakes you can avoid just by listening to them.
Entrepreneurship has a weird way of working out, but after all the sacrifices and obstacles, you will see the rewards, you might even see them daily. Celebrate any small win, believe in yourself, and you’ll be successful.
A good friend of mine told me that the difference between fear and courage is that when you are afraid you don’t do anything but being courageous means to be afraid and still do everything. Therefore, an entrepreneur is a courageous person willing to see if the limit is really in the sky!
Is never too late, go work for your dreams to come true, be the better you every day and just keep going!
